Stronger Together: Support Beyond Our School
At Lakes Grammar, strong support structures are already in place through our dedicated wellbeing team. This team includes Academic Care teachers, Deans, Heads of School, our school chaplain and counsellor, all working closely to support students and families throughout their school journey.
In addition to this, our growing partnerships with external support agencies are strengthening the way we care for, guide and prepare our students — both now and into the future.
Career Advice in the 21st Century
Gone are the days of the traditional school careers office filled with worn folders and photocopied brochures. At Lakes Grammar, students now have access to a comprehensive suite of modern, online career resources designed to make future planning clearer and more personalised.
Available to students, teachers and parents, the Career Tools platform provides interactive planning for career and tertiary education pathways. Students can explore career options based on their favourite school subjects or conduct broader industry searches to discover new possibilities.
The platform allows students to delve deeper through online quizzes and short courses, leading to micro-credentials (badges) that can be added directly to the built-in résumé builder. Each career overview includes insights into required skills, career progression opportunities and key facts, with direct links to national tertiary courses and industry training options.
Scholarships, open days and industry events are also advertised and updated in real time. The platform can be accessed through Schoolbox under the Academics tab.
SchoolTV
Through our partnership with SchoolTV, families have access to a wide range of trusted resources supporting young people in areas such as mental health, school refusal and online safety.
This easy-to-navigate platform provides videos and printable resources designed to support understanding and encourage meaningful conversations at home. Parents and carers can also sign up for new topic alerts and connect directly with the relevant Head of School to ensure timely and effective communication.
SchoolTV can be accessed via the Quick Links tab in Schoolbox.
Respectful Relationships
Over the past 12 months, Lakes Grammar staff have participated in the Respectful Relationships program through the Association of Independent Schools (AIS). This program aims to empower students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to build healthy, respectful and safe relationships throughout their lives.
This whole-school initiative is aligned with the new PDHPE syllabus and is delivered at age- and stage-appropriate levels. The program is also embedded into our Academic Care framework.
Teachers completed AIS professional development, and student and staff surveys were conducted last year to inform the rollout. These insights have guided implementation and will support the development of positive, respectful relationship models across our school community.
Social Media and Online Safety
The national under-16 social media ban has now been in place for several months. As we continue to observe its impact, the focus remains on how we can best protect our students and support their wellbeing in an increasingly connected online world.
The ban aims to reduce exposure to harmful content and limit opportunities for online harassment or contact from unsafe individuals. Student safety and mental health remain a priority in this evolving digital landscape.
The eSafety Commissioner website offers a wealth of advice and practical resources for families. At Lakes Grammar, we maintain a strong commitment to restricting phone use during school hours, with more appropriate and responsible use encouraged in the senior years.
